I have noticed a fairly large puddle of oil starting to appear under the car and was wondering if there was a common place that I should start the search for the leak. The drip seems to be coming from the sump but there is oil all over the bottom so the sump could just be where it is running to before dripping, any suggestions or is it not a diy job on the drive.

most comon oil leak is the rocker cover gasket, this can cause oil to runn down the entire engien, and onto the follr... other then that, I'm not aware of any perticulary comon leaks :) althoug I belive some have had leaks from the sump, I don't recal it beeing comonplace :)

When I went to replace the plugs the other day there were little pools of oil around the plugs so that would also point to the rocker gasket so I had better bet that changed then, cheers.

I don't suppose you can help me out with a link to the correct gasket for an 02 1.7 as the listings seem to go on engine codes of which I am not yet familiar.

or here (ignore it's also for a Fiesta, this is the correct Finis Part Number):

Has anybody used one of the cheap ones off eBay, yes I am trying to be a tight git

Cheap ones off eBay don't stretch/fit correctly. I found one on my engine when i bought it and swapped it out for a Ford part and have had no issues since with it!
