So took the car in for a health check and this is what they said it needs: lower front suspension arms (wishbones), two rear bushes, rear brake hoses as they're perished. Front right tyre and tracking. £350 excluding tyre and tracking. Are any of these garage jobs or could I do them provided I had some guidance and a ramp to get it up on? Need to do it cheaper than their quote.

All of the jobs are do-able yourself, as I have done them myself. You don't necessarily need a ramp either, just get it up on axle stands and be prepared to have a rust shower. I don't know of your capabilities, but i'm a mechanic anyway so it wasn't much hardship for me. What I will say is that with the rear beam bushes (i assume that's what needs doing), if you don't mind splashing a little extra cash then getting poly bushes will make it a 100% DIY job, as rubber ones would need pressing in with a hydraulic press.

Also I would recommend getting both sides tracked as the new lower arms will be slightly different to the original ones.

And you'll need a mate to help you with bleeding the brakes after replacing the brake lines.

Check these out for the bushes - http://pumabuild.com/pumacat/product_info.php?products_id=246

Thanks chaps will definitely keep that in mind. I've been reading up and had seen the poly variant would be a better option but £115!? I only got the car for £500 I don't think I could spend that much. Are there other cheaper brands that produce them pls?
