not worked on my project puma in months brought a house with the mrs so been building a new workshop at the back to keep the motor dry :)

This sunday was the first in agesssss...

stripped all the back axle off the car and dropped the fuel tank..

I think i'm right in saying... a rear disc conversion you use the original axle and fit the new set up to the ends (pardon the tec wording ha)

and that you dont need a different axle

just checking before i start sand blasting and spray it and find out i've wasted my time and money...

Are focus rear disc and pads the best parts for the job ???????

cheers for the help chris

As far as I know, they are the best, you can use escort 4x4 rears, but for ease of accsses to parts, focus items are the best. They are also what was used on the original frp :)

Hi Chris
Mechanically the conversion is easy with just an ST150 Fiesta handbrake cable needed in addition to the Focus bits. It's getting the ABS working which is the problem as well as you would probably be overbraked at the rear end of the car if you didn't upgrade the front. There's loads of items on here with info but on my car I'm using Focus ST170 fronts and rears.

PS You would need 16" wheels if you went for the full Focus set up like mine.

cheers boys

i'm not to worryed because abs dont no weather or not i'm going to put it back on the road with abs (might be more fun without)

17" wheel are also going on when its back on the road so thats that problem overcome.....

also cause i'm fitting frp rep panels to incase the puma track so the wheels dont disappear under the arches i'm fitting the axle spacers on the rear axle behind the brakes like the racing puma think they are only 12.5mm or 20mm each side mine are 30mm each side

will the st150 handbrake cable be long enough

told i may need frp hand brake cables

Hi Chris
I think your insurance company might have something to say about no ABS, especially if you had an accident and the assessors found out.
The 17" wheels could be a problem if you are thinking of using lowering springs as your tyres will foul on the underneath of the inner wings at the front.
The 30mm spacers at the rear should be ok as I've got 20mm spacers + discs on the back and with ET 38 offsett wheels and 205 section tyres the tyres don't foul the rear wheel arches.
The ST150 cable fits mine plus easy to get hold of.

emmmm better make sure i dont crash haha might have to rethink that then, as for the wheels i will have to investigate weather they will foul or i will have to change to adjustable suspension and only drop it 30mm and not 60 odd

lower the better ;)

Hi Chris
There's some photos you might find useful on my posting in the project puma area "My Puma 1.7,more than a year on (A works in progress)"
