Puma rev counter?

Was coming out of work before and gave my puma abit of spanking down the dual carriage way, then noticed my revcounter was just sat at 0 :/ was abit gutted didnt hear anything go wrong and notice anything un natural, then all of a sudden it sprang back into life! a few miles later.
Just wandering... what controls the revcounter on the puma? is it cable driven orr?

Any ideas what this could be? Just interested as its fixed itself now but wanted to know what would cause it to stop all of a sudden?

I noticed this on my bosses puma and never really looked in to it, but i know its not cable driven, its all electronic. just used to giv the dash a 'tap' and it would work

I had the same problem, and the tapping the dash really does work....
