Hi everyone,

I don’t know if its a complete coincidence or not but I spent ages yesterday cleaning and polishing my puma in side and out and when I went to hoover inside, the passenger footwell was soaking wet.

What is wrong with my lovely car? Has the water gone in somehow when I was hosing the wheel arches? Is that possible? The car was MOT'd before I paid for her two weeks ago and it was just the brakes that had an advisory notice on them.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks!

Hi Pinkmoo,

A leak on the passenger footwell is most commonly cause by a hole in the grommet which goes through the bulkhead or it may not be seated correctly.

Another cause has been the window seal isn't quite tight and rain/hose gets through the gaps.

Hope this helps,

Red

my old corsa had the same problem it was from a newly fitted window by a cowboy that caused the problem as somebody said earlier..check the seals on the front window as water leakage ruined my passenger footwell.

Tip of the day

Buy a nice pair of wellies…!  :)

Sorry to hear of your recent problem , hope its rectified in the near future with minimal cost.

My old focus had this problem, it went back to the garage 4 times before they fixed it, I seem to remember that it was a seal underneath the plastic cover below the windscreen. It had perished. Fixed it myself in the end with silicone. try a ford specialist they should be able to advise you, sounds like this is quite a common fault on the fords.

Is it easier to get at the grommet from outside or by lifting the carpet? Thanks.

It's easiest getting to the grommit under the bonnet. As you look at it there will be a black grommit in the top right hand corner. Suprised Dal hasn't posted a link to another thread as im sure this has come up plenty of times :)

Hope you find it! Just stick sealant in and around the thing!

My Audi did this, leaves blocking up drainage channels in the engine bay, under the battery. Didn't think to move the battery myself so the Audi guy charged me for it - oh, well, lesson learned...
