Hi everyone.

My mum has just got a new job and it's a 65 mile round trip, all motorway. Her poor little mk5 fez 1.2 is burning the petrol and it's costing her loads!!

She's currently after something that's alot more fuel eficient and has no more than £3000 for a new car. Size wise she doesn't want anything too big (focus size would be the biggest)

Anybody got any ideas please.

Thanks

Citroen C3 1.4 Diesel

We had the 90bhp 16V one from new (2003), it ran to 170,000 with no expensive issues at all and never let us down once.

Always high 50s early 60s mpg.

£3,000 should buy you a nice one, 2004 or 2005

A small diesel sounds like what your mum needs Mike.

1.4 MK6 Fiesta diesels for under £3k, with about 55k on the clock. Looking at around 60 mpg.
The 1.6 Fiesta diesels have a little more oomph in them, but the prices on them start at around £3.5k, and the MPG is a touch lower, but still 56-60 or so average.
1.5 Clio diesels: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201140420155562" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think most small engined modern diesels will get a decent MPG, plus they'll be cheaper on tax (1.6 Fiesta TDCi is £30 a year) have a read of some of the reviews on Parkers and see what's local to you.

Wow. Didn't think the fiesta was that good on fuel!

Will take a look, thanks cherie
