Sounds a little 'Tappy' on cold start + Oil question

Is it the norm for Zetecs to sounds a little 'Tappy' for the first few mins of driving when you start on a cold morning? Just cold thick oil needing time to make it to the top end?

Also I will be doing another oil change next week and want to know if I should stick to 5w30 or use 5w40 like Tremona seems to use?

I guess the advantage is better warm protection / less oil usage in older engine?

Mine seems to sound slightly "off" until the cat has got hot, only takes a minute though.

I use 5w30 for oil change and 5w40 for topping up, I think you have to be a bit more carefull with oil choice with the 1.7s as the VCT uses the engine oil like hydraulic fluid to act.
