Hi all...

I'm in need of some form of template to work from so I can retrim a steering wheel in my own material.
I would get a steering wheel from the scrappers but I don't fancy paying £20 for something that will just end up getting binned.

Thanks

Ideally I'd need to use something as a template that I can literally place on top of new material and trim around...

Maybe an old steering wheel..

I'll just have to keep my eyes open for a cheap one..

This might help?

That would be brilliant... Would that be to scale if I copy & paste it and print it off?
If so that would be great

Have a look here. It is a bigger thread, but even so. There is a template next to a ruler, scroll down a bit on foruth page

my trimmer said the PP one above is not great, he ended up scrapping a piece of alcantara because of it, but it is closeish

which one, the one I posted? I saw it getting used on my and another steering wheel and it worked out perfectly. Mind you, I retrimmed complete steering wheel meaning the 4 parts of leather had to be stiched (joined) together. And yes, after the SW is covered it does need to be trimmed a bit, but that is normal. It is handwork, not mashine.
Mr WR did have to scrap once 4 pieces of leather 'cos the thread snapped on him while he was straining the leather at the end and had te redo it, but there was nothing wrong with the shape... :?:

Oh dear :(

I think my best plan of action at the moment is to source a scrap steering wheel.. cut the trim off that and use it as a template. At least that way I can be certain that I've got the right shape. :eek:k:
