I got my self a silver ford puma 1.7 on a R plate on May 14th 2009.
it had 95k on it, full service history... in there was the clutch done at 60k and the cambelt done last year. with 12 months mot and 6 months tax, got four great tyres (6-7mm goodyears) new back box, sills are fine.
bad bits- spot of rust on the arch, scuff on bumper and front bumper slightly cracked right at the bottom (high curb damage)
was only one key with it... and it wasn't the red one! but got another one for £45.
right...first thing i done was new oil filter and fresh oil (5w/30)
Then i felt the brakes were not up to my standards- was reading up on the Mondeo mk3 callipers with st 170 discs... so got my arse down the scrap yard and got some callipers and carriers off an 03 plate mk3 zetec Mondeo for £40.
i fitted the brake upgrade... under the standard propellers!
Had to shave about a mm off the calliper carrier and used 3mm spacers... it was still all a bit too tight for my likings (i mean... you could hardly get a rizzla paper in there!!) did look VERY cool but not practical at all. if anyone is thinking of doing this- i would not recommend it if you drive in a "sporty" manner.
so i looked into some alloys- had to be 16" and bigger of course plus wanted to keep a "standard" look.
When i was in tescos car park i see a sport KA parked up and noticed it had 16" rims and 4 stud. so decided to look what the offset was. ET34... result
done a photoshop to see what they would look like:
i was happy with the look so went on the hunt for some. few weeks later stumbled across some on ebay badly advised and got them for a good price.
in the mean time i lowered my car- just on some springs for now.
Then looked into changing the front seats as i personally found the standard ones very uncomfortable. got some Recaro RS2000 front seats off ebay for pennies... and mounted them on some mk3.5 runners. no modifications required- apart from fitting the seat belt tensioners of course.
i am going for a silver, black, grey theme and didn't like the blue ford badges so found some puma stickers to cover the badges.
Thought i would be a bit different and go for black on the grill (very subtle) and silver on the back to go with the silver paint.
I have done the audi light mod... still not sure whether i like it or not! thing is- i wired them up so they turn on with the side lights so are ALWAYS on when the lights are. hopefully some day soon ill bother my arse to wirer them to fiesta ZS front fog light switch.
whilst i done this i fitted some HIDs (waits for someone to tell me off...) went for 6000k. look really blue in some pictures but they are not that bad!!
i have always liked the mondeo cosworth style wheels... feel the curves suit the puma but could no way afford the genuine cosworth ones and wasn't happy with the offset being 6mm out on the standard mondeo ones (ET40) but stumbled across some with an offset of ET35 and wider (J7) so snapped them up for a VERY good price. later found out these are very rare and was only available from the RS accessories catalogue.
have put them on with the standard tyres (205/50 R16) just so i've got some wheels on to clear my callipers properly and could take the spacers out. Tyres look like BALLOONS!! just waiting on my195/45 R16 Toyo Proxes to be delivered 8)
also note i fitted a subtle sun strip. does what it says on the tin lol
oh and a "bee sting" aerial
well i think that's it for now. apart from ICE... but thats nothing special. little sub, amp, upgraded front speakers, after-market head unit and a ck3100 bluetooth hands free kit.
thank you for taking your time to read this. any comments are welcome- there is no harm in constructive criticism.
