Air Con Maintenance

Have been skimming through my Owners manual having just picked it up from ebay.
Noticed in the Maintenance and Care section that ford recommend that the air con is run for at least half an hour per month, does anyone know why?

it helps to prevent leaks,the aircon compressor from siezing as there is oil in the sytem to lubricate the compressor,and also circulates the gases.ford also recommend it to be serviced every year aswell.

It's also good to run the system to stop things "Growing" in the system like mould etc. Once a week mine goes on for the commute home. Remember it's "conditioning" the air so you can use it when you want heat!

but does it have to run on cold? or it's the same if you run it on hot (in winter) because i heard that even in winter it must run abit on cold to prevent the problem.

doesnt matter if its run on hot or cold so long as it is run atleast once a week for min of 30 mins.

Ford recommend at least 30min per month.
Don't know what Puma aircon is like but using the aircon on my old 406 increased fuel consumption by about 10%.
