Hello all

I've recently picked myself up a puma 1.7 on 2001 as a run around whilst I fix up my fiat coupe.
The puma which I picked up for £300 has almost paid for itself in fuel savings, however the clutch is beginning to slip.
On the fiat coupe it's an engine out job, fiat quoting £1300 for the job, however I can get this done at a specialist for £399. I have had a couple of quotes for the puma, and they seem to be coming back at around £430-£450 which seems like madness to me!
I have a quote from Mr Clutch of £229 but suspect this won’t include the release baring.

Can anyone recommend where I might get a clutch change at a reasonable cost?
I am happy to travel to neighbouring cities.

Cheers
Phil

There is a list of Puma garages people on here have used over the years in my signature. There may be someone on there reasonably local you can try.

Hi and welcome, btw!

PS - love the Fiat Coupe 20v! One of Pinanfarina's finest, I reckon.

Cheers Rob, I did check out your list yesterday, again quotes were in the region of £450!

By the looks of it, the cheapest way to get this done will be the Sachs clutch kit and slave cylinder from Euro Car Parts, and find a garage that will fit them for me.
The puma I have is a tidy example, other than the big dent in the door and rear quarter, oh and it's a cat c, hence why I picked it up so cheaply! Not sure I want to splash out on a clutch when the car is worth less than what it will cost me to sort it, especially when this is just a run around whilst the fiat is fixed. And yes, I often hear fix it again tomorrow! After around 8 years of ownership though, I would say it's not really the case.

Tom, a good place to start is here http://www.fccuk.org/forum/. It's a cracking forum and helped me so much. Where are you based?

No need to save for long, you can pick up a tidy one for not a lot, if you know what to look for!
I'm seeing values starting to rise too, which is madness.

I was going to point you towards a local specialist, but you'll find all you need to know on the forum I mentioned.

Noticing the pic in you sig, how's the FRP on the track? One of my thoughts if I hang onto this 1.7 puma was to stick on some toyo R888's, get some decent front pads in, and take it for a blast around somewhere. I do realise the FRP is quite different to what I have.

The FRP is awesome on track, could have done with some different tyres on the back as it got a bit squirmy as the laps went by. Ask Mr Rob as he was self elected passenger, he might give you a better run down of what he thinks TPLT is like on track :-D

If your going to track the puma I'd upgrade the brake set up to the 300mm fiesta st set up with race grooved discs for better stopping power.
