Is it possible to remove/split the driveshaft on the joint nearest to the passenger side hub?

I need to remove the passenger side drive shaft... I have removed the gearbox end and ideally need to remove it from the hub end, but leaving the splined part still in the hub...

Hi,

when i work in a ford shop, i use this type of tool (i'm not sure of the part number) its the more easiest method to remove it

https://www.amazon.com/OTC-7140-Halfshaft-Remover-Differential/dp/B000P6UNQA

when the driver side is removed, you put this tool in the diff, and hit whith a hammer ...
it pushes the passenger drive out the box

but, it's not the only method,
you can use use this

http://tedperkins.com/driveshafts.htm

or https://www.justanswer.com/volvo/5rrjn-volvo-s60-2-4-wont-drivers-side-half-shaft.html

or simply try use 2 prybar or tire remove tool (i'm not sure it's called like this in england),
but it's not the easiest method,

Hi Alex

Thanks for your reply... I'm not sure if there are crossed wires here or I'm not fully understanding your answer.

This is the CV joint I need to split..

I've removed the engine and gearbox but want to remove the remaining drive shafts as they are dangling on to the floor, but ideally want to leave the splines in the hubs so I can move the car around on its wheels.

As far as I know, you should be able to knock the end of the shaft off. I'm not sure about the fitting on the puma but my van has small retainer rings inside allowing you to tap the cv joint off the shaft.
Don't quote me but I think you may have to hold the whole shaft vertical so the ring clip sits in the right spot before you start tapping the joint.
Oh, and I should have underlined 'Tapping' Hit mine (renault trafic) with a lump hammer and smashed the bearing cage

Rob.

Oooookkkk

sorry i'don't understand it at the begining

if you want only the cv joint,
you had to cut the boot clamping and use a tool like this

with a inertia hammer

or simply hit the center of the cv joint with a bronze cylinder https://www.forch.fr/documents/thumbs/1192514897_20150106134904_900x800_Fit_0_0.png

if you want to know more about driveshaft, and if you are allergic to peugeot, there is a good video

There's a spring circlip like thing, you need to put screwdriver into gap and twist to open it up and release, however even if you remove drive shafts hubs aren't affected. I'd just undo hub nut, remove drive shaft complete, put wheels back on.

As long as wish bone, steering arm and suspension leg are attached to knuckle you can still roll car around.

The circlip makes sense. Would also explain why it wont come out for love nor money!

I think this is going to be the best option as everything is together in one piece, I just need the driveshafts out so they aren't dragging on the floor!

Only just seen reply, I assumed fact that you had Gearbox end out you realise that a bit of oil can leak out of box. I've never refitted old CV joint, but I clear as much grease as possible with McD's napkins (other clothes are available) then plastic sheet and old towel under joint and blitz around clip with brake cleaner so I can see what I'm doing rather than 'scrape and feel' method
