Fuel level sensor

Is the fuel level sensor different between early and late cars?

I think so...im studying the problem now cause i have issues with my 99 puma...after ive changed the fuel pump when its full it shows empty and when its empty it shows full...i think there are 3 different fuel pumps for our pumas....97-99 , 99 and 2000-2002...

I could cope with a backwards gauge, better than no gauge!

Its still a bit tricky because it doesnt have the low level fuel warning light
