Hey,

I'm having a problem with my tailgate... It keeps falling on my head when I try to grab something from my boot..

I'm driving a 1998 Puma (without the 3rd braking light) and looking for new gas struts.
After reading another thread here someone mentioned that the right sided gas-strut is not available due to wire connected to it (suppose this is used for the 3rd brake light?)

After searching through eBay and Google I found a lot of examples saying that both left and right are equal, But I have my doubts about that, Is this true?.

Also read about people with spoilers using stronger gas struts(Fiesta ones I believe?). Might be interested in that too?

Fiesta ones?:

Looking forward to an answer!
Thanks

On the later cars the right side strut was used for the brake light so there's a wire to it. But the early ones are identical so if you're in doubt just get two left ones.

I don't know about Fiesta ones, but I think the standard ones are strong enough to support the extra weight of a spoiler, but that's just on the basis of me putting things on the lid, pressing the button and having it lift without me helping.

It's the weather or, more accurately, the temperature of the gas inside. Mine does the same at the height of summer and the coldest of the winter and any non-new strut can surprise you with this. - I just do tip #2 here - http://www.projectpuma.com/viewtopic.php?p=327040#p327040" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you want new, then your srg.eng link looks good with good quality at a good price and guaranteed for 2 years. Not a bad deal at all as it's false economy to even consider buying these second hand.

Try SGS Engineering.Top quality at good price.I've brought lots of tools and gas struts for my Puma from them and always been very happy.
As for wire that connects to either end of off side strut, I removed the terminals from original struts and fitted to new struts. Then soldered a connecting wire between the terminals and cable tyed to strut. This creates the connection that passed inside the original strut and keeps high level brake light working. Has lasted 3 years now, no probs. SGS Eng struts still going strong.

Thinking of buying them for SGS. But need to know if they come in a set. Do you know this since you've ordered from them?

EDIT: Already found out, Should've read the description :-D
