I was going to use acrylic, but the colours weren't vivid enough. Use fabric paint in the end

It takes a lot of patience and time!

Since I've been using it in the car, I've noticed more "scratches" in the daylight..

...so I might need to pull my knob off and give it another good rub soon
 
It's still a bit swirly, as the highest grit paper I had when I did it was only 1000. Still, compared to what it was like before it's a big improvement. I'd encourage anyone who hasn't polished their knob yet to whip it out :)

 
just done mine got a bolt that fit in then cut the head of with a hack saw and put it in a drill. used sand paper then cutting compound. and it looks great cheers for posting this it helped alot :)
