Until the clutch 'went' in my '97 Fiesta, it had been a terrific trouble-free three years of motoring!

There are plenty of Pumas around if you need parts too! :)

Seriously though, a cheap fiesta could be a donor ( interior trim, radio etc )for your Puma when you're done with it!

Yeah that's true TAG, but that's IF I keep the Puma once it's sorted.
Kinda leaning towards getting a cheap runabout like a Fezza, selling the Puma once sorted and getting something a bit more "exotic" and using the Fezza as everyday transport.

;)

Don't neglect the humble diesel.

Fuel available at 58p / litre at Tesco this week.

(Special offer on Pura cooking oil - not that anybody here would do anything as illegal as running their car on fuel not carrying Road Tax.)

It's going to the garage tonight so they can investigate when they get time. It's a very busy garage so they'll look at it when they can.
Just hope it'll drive the 1 mile to get there. Should do.

Going to look at a cheap 1.4 fiesta ghia saturday.

68,000 miles, MOT to late June, 6 months tax, 4 new tyres, etc

£225

I have no idea PD! 1989 "vintage" ;)

At least it's not the same as the basic white festa I used to have. 1.0 litre, no rear wiper, no intermittant, no clock...

1989

1.4 CVH 99% certain it will be carbed

make sure it goes ok, we had a 1.4 escort that was nearly as powerful as a singer sewing machine.

It should have nice interior and seats and I think it will have central locking and possibly elect windows(front).

From advert:
This is a low milage Fiesta 1.4 Ghia that I have owned for 2 years, and in that time it has never let me down. I brought this car as a winter run around with the idea that I would sell it after a couple of months, but it has been that reliable I have kept it and for the last 12 months it has been my main car. It is MOT'd until late June 08 and I have just put 6 months tax on it. I have put it through 2 mots and all it needed was 4 new tyres. Cheap insurance (I am 39 and costs about £95, and cheap tax £115).
Service history
4 new tyres
electric windows
sun roof
cental locking
Radio cassette
Taxed and MOT'd
Good interior
Owned by one family for all but my ownership
HPI clear

To be honest I don't especially care if it's fast or not. As long as it can get me to work and back and is reliable for now.

Where should I look for background reading oh Fiesta guru???

I thought you'd be the expert ;)

What's the main areas to look at then on saturday? The usual suspension, bushes, clutch, cv joint knocking on lock etc?

Might end up bringing it to Fiesta Owner days out with you..lol

Check for rust in the following areas.
Round the fuel filler cap area.- very important most Mk3 were rotten round here and needed new rear quarters.
Under any exterior plastic trim
under the sills
have a look under the carpets if you can.

Check oil filler cap for sludge/ white gunge. breather probs/ gaskets at worse.
Check steering for heaviness and feel. If it feels like you are steering with a fifty pence piece shaped wheel then the universal joint needs replacing. Not too expensive though.

then all the usual suspects

tyres for uneven wear
pedals with wear that doesn't tally with the mileage
sunroof for leaks
water in the boot
operation of rear wiper- usual fiesta/puma trouble.
smoking exhaust-puffs between gears/overrun
condition of oil and level.

Brilliant PD
