Hi guys,

How do I remove the drive shaft from the outer CV joint? Apparently there's a circlip hidden in the grease somewhere?

I only really need to change the boot but I'm guessing that grease shouldn't be black so maybe an entire new CV joint would be better... Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Dan

Edit: Should have put this under tyres and suspension I guess. Sorry.

CV grease is black.
If there is play in the joint then you should consider changing it, otherwise, a new boot will suffice.
remember to pack a load more grease in when you reassemble it.
It`s easily available in car part shops.

Cheers mate.

Should I remove the cv joint to get the boot over it?

Also any idea where the circlip is that's holding the drive shaft in?

Edit: Found it, it's bloody tiny.

Hi,
I saw this too late. The CV joint circlip is a royal pain in the a@@ to unclip. IIRC you puss the circlip wide to "open" it the CV join can slide out of the driveshaft. But the access to the circlip is rather difficult.

I have seen split CV boots that you don't have to split the CV joint from the driveshaft to install. They wrap around the driveshaft and then you glue them to make them one piece.

hello..you can get stretch boots that slip over the cv joint using a cone which stretches the boot over.
