I had a 1.6 Ford Puma. Last week the car refused to start . I thought the battery must have gone flat. So called the breakdown guy. The breakdown guy started the jump-start process and mentioned that possibility of the battery being gone completely bad is high. As it was getting charged he was playing with the ignition key and the ignition key came off . But the car was still running ( though key isn't in the ignition) . After fiddling with the fuse box in the hood .. he took off some fuses and finally the car switched off. He mentioned that the fuel pump wasn't turning off and that a mechanic/garage would need to have a closer look.
Unfortunately i couldn't sort the car with the garage as I had to leave for work. So the car was left with the advisory that the battery is bad and needs replacement too.
Now my question is that
a) Has anybody experienced this in the past ( i.e the car not turning off)
I think The battery replacement part is something I would be able to do on my own.
So before I hand it over to the garage was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the other aspect i.e ( the car not turning off, the key coming off the ignition switch, and having to pull the fuse to forcefully switch off the engine)
Btw I tried switching on the car today and it doesn't turn on . The dials keep swinging. And the engine light, hand brake light is ON even after switching off the ignition.
Had to remove and insert the fuse in the fuse box (hood) and the lights went off
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Thanks
