Weird Noise...

Lets face it, I'm really bad at getting these sorts of problems looked at.

For a while now (and I mean a while), theres been a weird sort of groan coming from what I believe to be the centre-ish of the engine compartment when I'm doing about 2500rpm in most gears, even does it on standstill.

Does anyone have a rough idea what this could be? I know it could be a million and one things really, and I could do with it getting looked at, but it never does anything and it's never gotten any worse...

Have you tried getting a mate to rev the car while you try to ascertain precisely where it is coming from? I only saw that because so many people mistake where sounds are coming from on a car

I'm betting something loose - a cable, air hose or something - vibrating.

I think you're right, if it was something more serious Id've been stuck at the side of the road with an RAC van a while ago now.
