a really oily sump, not dripping but quite concerned...

Hi all,

Whilst checking various bit the other day I noticed a rather large amount of oil collecting all over the sump, its not dripping or leaving a mess anywhere but im concerned and have no idea where to start and don't really want to have to get the local garage to diagnose it as labour will soon rack up (rather broke atm) does anybody have an idea before I let the mechanics loose on it?
any help would be much appreciated - if i can say to the garage 'i think it could be the xxxx - i spoke to the forum' I know it'll save some much needed petrol cash

It's more than likely the rocker cover gasket leaking, can you see any leaks from round the rocker cover?

Could also be the oil filter leaking. Not tightened enough or over tightened so the seal is distorted.

Or try and clean the oil off then you may see where it's leaking from easier.....

Don't worry too much about it as long as it's not dripping.
I bet 7 out of 10 Pumas on the road have some oil deposits on the sump.
Just keep a check on the level and don't let it get too low.
