More shell prep and seat rails, then off to get painted.

Fitting seat position, hydraulic handbrake position and cutting holes for bonnet pins, roof vent etc. before painting.

Any suggestions on colour? I need to take my mind off the amount of work / money required! I was being boring and going for ice white with some blue vinyl tiger stripes.

Hi Ian - glad they held up...long may it continue. How did you get on? Did Mat Smith do that event in his Ka? Proper quick he is (although he cheats and uses talent).

The build has stalled a bit (pardon the pun) but is now ready for paint, and then we'll be into transplant mode.

When are you out next?

Sorry for jumping in!

Yes Mat Smith was out- unfortunately for everyone else.. we were well and truly beat by him on the Jack Frost even though we were in a quicker car so i know the feeling!

What colour did you decide for the new shell in the end? Hope to see you back out soon

Phil

Well, boys and girls, apologies for the delay in proceedings owing to changing jobs and a few months off (nice, but no money) and a period "reviewing my finances".

Finding a decent (and reasonable) painter was a struggle, but here's some progress at last:

Now for the hard bit

Well its about time there! I was wondering if you were ever going to make another step.

It looks really good though, and nice to sww it taking shape in the wider format.

What are you doing about widening the track from your old shell to this?

Hi Mac,

It's nice to get it moving and Dan is getting all excited about swapping the bits over and already has me lined up for crap jobs with wire brushes and Hammerite...

The shell comes with the FRP parts - bottom arms, steering knuckles etc - but I think we need to machine a spacer for the dampers to locate. We're getting all the running gear over first to get this all sorted. The main headache is sorting out the wiring loom as we're going from LHD to RHD.

Give me a shout when you're around and pop over when Dan's made a start.

Yeah I'm back in 3 weeks or so so I will definately drop you a line to come over. I'll be attempting to make further progress on mine by the end of the year once things have all settled down.

Is there much difference between LHD & RHD looms?
As for the knuckles, if you have problems, I know two people that can make them up.

Will the FRP parts that came with the new shell, will they be strong enough?

Mac

Don't know about the looms; Dan's going to lay them out side by side and we'll work out what to do from there. I think the standard arms are OK - I guess I'll find out.

Underneath / subframe / beam / wheel arches painted. Ready for the guys to get stuck in on Sunday:
