Hi, puma passed the test today after a little work.
Replaced all the shock absorbers with Monroes though it only needed the rears.
The fronts behave very well over speed humps but the back end has a thump when coming off a speed hump.
Is this normal behavior due to the lightness of the rear?

Check spare tyre is bolted up nice and tight and its not moving around and check rear muffler box rubber hangers..

Hi, thanks for the suggestions.
I replaced the entire exhaust before the test and it seemed tight but I'll check.
I also had the spare's tray off to paint so I'll check that as well.

I wouldn't say that's normal behavior.
Did you replace the suspension top mounts?
Also it could be the rear beam bushes, they don't always get picked up on a MOT test.

Just tightened the spare tray a little and drove across a speed hump.
Most of the thump has gone just a small thump which could be put down to stiffness of the new shocks.
Not sure though as this car is new to me.

I didn't replace the top mounts on the rear, did the fronts though.
How can I check the rear beam bushes?

Is there a gap between the top mounts and body? I had to put an 8mm thick rubber ring in mine because of the gap.

As "Stevecvo" said, it's normal to have a gap at both front and rear, just not too big a gap.
