Engine stalls when air con turns on

Hi, my wife's puma stalled earlier today and she lost power steering also. This happened with the air con on. However with it turned off all was ok again and has been since. Would this be caused by the compressor failing? I have suspected the compressor to be on its way out as lately it makes a slight grinding noise all the time, which is made worse with the a/c on. Remove the aux belt and the noise goes.

Is it possible for the compressor to seize with the ac on but run freely when its not? as the aux belt turn the pulley all the time. Any help much appreciated before I shell out on a new compressor.

Yeh the air con compressor has an electronic clutch on the front of it to allow the pulley to free wheel when you don't have the air con turned on

Sounds exactly like the compressor has seized and the clutch is allowing the pulley spin until you engage it.

I need this part also...my car doesnt stall but the revs drop like every 5 seconds when the ac is on...nearing the verge of stall
